World War 2 Coastal Defences

Very little remains of the World War 2 coastal defences. The map below shows the five concrete gun emplacements spaced out along the shore and the positions of the large wooden posts on the sands.

Gordon found the map, the sketch and the following description in a copy of the Over Wyre Historical Journal from 1990-91.

So the gun emplacements were never armed!
However some target practice did take place using artillery on the shore. Two rather imaginative targets were positioned towards the mouth of the Lune.

A Messerschmitt ME109 - or, at least, a two dimensional silhouette of one mounted high on a metal scaffold.

And a simulated submarine conning tower.
